Simply Stampin' Challenge

It's been a while since I've entered a blogland challenge but yesterday I was in the mood and found this sketch on http://simplystampinchallenge.blogspot.com/ which seemed like a lovely way to try to get back into things.

Here's the card I came up with which is for my niece's birthday at the end of the month.

I used a stamp from the Stampin' Up set Summer by the Sea and stamped it simply in sepia ink (Versafine) onto white card. I used my nesties to mat the image and used paper from the Hanoverian collection by Papermania (which is one of my paper collections) for the background. I think the brown card was part of a Stampin' Up set but I can't be sure! I found flowers, card candy, button and some ribbon in my stash and used a Stampin' Up scalloped oval punch to layer a Craftwork Card sentiment oval on.

As it's been a long time since I've used a sketch for a card design I've followed the sketch just about to the letter - experimentation will come in time!

Long time (again) without any updates. Lots of reasons and excuses but here I am posting once again. I don't really 'celebrate' Valentines Day - I find it strange that there should be one particular day a year that my DH should buy me flowers or chocolates. I think it means more when it happens on a completely random day because he thought of it and not becuase some supermarket is trying to flog roses and meals for 2! However, I did buy my children a bar of chocolate each and made them a card and, for once, I even remembered to take a picture! It's taken me ages to get the photos edited as I've bought a new laptop since I last posted with updated software and my old brain just doesn't cotton on to these things as quickly as it once did. Got there in the end though so....drumroll please....here's my first post for 2012 and my first in over 6 months. Hopefully it will be the start of many and not the end of it for the year.

Just a brief note of how the cards were made - Me To You decoupage. The pink one has some glitter stuff on the heart (magazine freebie) and I've used Glossy Accents on the nose of the blue one. The paper is from a Me To You 12x12 pack. The mat was cut with a nestie and embossed using Crafts Too Daisy and Swirl embossing folder.

This card was made from a kit for a friends birthday - the girl on the card looks just like her! Apologies for the photo, I'd already bagged it up before I thought to take the picture but at least it shows I'm still crafting away!

Disney Card

I'm a bit of Disney nut and this year we'll be making our 4th trip to Orlando just so I can get my fix (also have to love, love, love the craft shopping there)! I recently found a forum just for people like me and took part in a Summer present exchange and naturally it was a good excuse for a card! I even managed to find a musical insert thingy so that when opened the card plays It's a Small World - anyone who has been will understand how that tune just gets into your head and stays there!

I made this card for my hairdresser who tied the knot in April. She's been doing my hair for about 9 years now. The card was made using a Kanban kit and I added the beautiful pink roses - I'm still in love with those flowers!

Feeling Floral!

I made this card for a Forum friend. The image is by Pink Petticoat and was free in a magzine recently - I copied it onto some card so that I could use my Promarkers to colour it. The shape of the card is from template included in the same magazine. I used a strip of torn pink paper to add some detail to the background and punched a border (Martha Stewart) on the light pink mat just to add some interest. I recently bought loads of paper roses from QVC and you will find these appearing on quite a few cards over the next few weeks. I love the dimensionn of them.

I Love Promarkers Easter Challenge

I was really pleased with my colouring on this image - for once I got the bears just how I wanted them! I'm entering this in the I Love Promarkers challenge (number 60). The image and papers are from the Forever Friends spring range, the sparkly buttons were a bargain 29p find at Hobbycraft and the Easter banner is something I've had in my stash forever!

New Home Card

I made this new home card for a work colleague. The image and sentiment are by Pink Petticoat and were included in a magazine recently. I copied it onto Stampin Up Whisper White card so that I could use Promarkers. The background card is actually beige in colour (I must get some photography lessons). The begie dotty paper is from a very old Papermania collection and the flowers are Hero Arts from my stash.

A second Bamboo card

This is the 2nd card I made using the same Pyrimage topper from the Simba and Bamboo Kanban kit. I used a bright pink pearlised card blank that I've had forever (!) and used the negative of the larger sized topper (used on the previous card) to make the holographic mat for the background the same shape (I'm sure there must be a nestie in this shape but it was quicker to just draw around a template). I punched the little flowers out from the card around the topper sheet and added dots of liquid pearls for the centres. A simple ribbon knot finished it off nicely.

Here's a quick photo of the 2 cards side by side - I think this is the most I've ever used one topper sheet before and considering the whole set cost just £5 I think I'm going to get some excellent value out of it!

Bamboo the Panda

I picked up this QVC Sima and Bamboo Kanban kit for just £5 at a craft show recently - what a bargain! I love the panda (the other character, Simba is a lion). The card blank here was made from a sheet of A4 card included in the kit, the only additions to the kit were some little flat back pearls. I used only one additional layer for this card and stretched the kit further by making another card using the other layers - I'll pop a picture up of the other one so you can see.

Faye Whittaker At the Seaside

This card uses a free chipboard embellishment from a magazine. I love these type of images and intend to purchase some decoupage and stamps (available from Joanna Sheen crafts). The blue and yellow papers were the obvious colour choices and compliment the image well. Perfect for a sunny day

Today is hubby's birthday - lost count of how hold he is, but it's still younger than me!

The top card uses some fab Kanban die cuts bought as a kit from QVC. So easy to put a quick card together.

The bottom card is using my very favourite Forever Friends characters - this one is a die cut decoupage from the newly released retro collection. Some Card Candy and a bow just finishes it off.

Little Boy Football Card

This card uses one of my all time favourite boy images which I use time and time again - I think just about every boy in my son's classes through school have had a variation of this card. I use Glossy Accents on the ball image and I used a Craftwork Cards round sentiment to echo the footballs on the backing paper (a freebie downloaded from the internet).

Fairy Cupcakes

I loved this little quirky character when I saw her. The die cut decoupage is glittered as is the cupcake background paper. The card was made using a sketch put up on a forum that I visit and is the first time I've ever used a sketch - I stuck rigidly to the sketch this time but give me a few more sketches and I'm sure I'll be rotating and interpreting with the best of them! This card is for my friend's not so little girl from my children.

Teenager Birthday Card

Firstly, apologies for the really poor photo - as usual taken in a hurry, the card is much lighter and brighter in real life.

My friend's daughter becomes a teenager at the end of this month and thanks to Kanban decoupage this card card will hopefully fit the bill! The background papers are from the Henbury Lane collection from Papermania and I used some of the new polka dot Card Candy (sorry, I know they call it Candi now but I can't bring myself to change from Card Candy) and a some spotty ribbon that I've had forever!

I have lots of birthdays in March and April which is why I've not added much to my blog - I've been too busy making them all. I didn't take photo's of them all, last minute as usual so it was a choice between getting them in the post or adding them here. I thought it was nicer to get a birthday card to the recipient on time.

Anyway, this card is for an old friend of mine who I know will appreciate the sentiment! The image was stamped and coloured using Promarkers and cut and layered using oval Nesties. The background paper is also from the Born to Shop range from Papermania.

I don't very often make cards using purple/lilac but after ending up with card, paper and embellishments in this colour (long story involving Mother in law, Christmas and an argument!) I thought I should try to use it. Floral decoupage isn't really my 'thing' either but I actually liked the end result so at least something good came out of the situation!

Wild Rose Studio For Men

As soon as I saw this stamp I knew it would be perfect for my brother and other male family members. It's been coloured with Promarkers. The background paper is from Dovecraft Mens pad and I embossed the cardstock with the Happy Birthday Cuttlebug embossing folder and sanded it back to make the embossing stand out. Although you can't see it from the photo the 'froth' on the beer has been flocked to add some texture.

Glitterpot Class

My daughter and I went to the Glitterpot today to do a card class with Graham Hansford using the Woodland Folk range of stamps and papers. I spent way too much time helping my daughter so I didn't actually get much made but it was fun just the same. Had a lovely spend in the shop afterwards which means my budget for the Make It Farnborough show is now zero.

The top one was for my daughter's head teacher and uses more of the delectable Hanoverarian papers and the secon one was made using my new Black and Gold Forever Friends CD Rom. First time I've ever designed anything using a CD so I was quite pleased with it.

Calendars

During the last few days of 2010 and the first few of 2011, I was busy making some desk calendars. Here's a few examples (I think I've got 2 more to show you). Two of them are Forever Friends decoupage, the top one (probably the most crafty one) uses K&Company Blue Poppy paper and embellishments and the other one is using the gorgeous V&A Hanoverian collection papers which I think are just divine. The calendars were given to the children's teachers as new year presents (they were supposed to have been done for Christmas but I hadn't even started them before the holidays) and one was for a dear friend of mine.

First Card for 2011

My birthday is New Year's Eve and I have a friend who's birthday is New Year's Day. We were both born in the same year but are a year apart in age and only a day apart in birthdays! The image here is a stamp I bought for my birthday from the Glitterpot yesterday (thanks hubby) from Wild Rose Studio and coloured with Promarkers The message is from a set I bought in Florida. I used a Nestie from a new set I bought yesterday (Labels 15) which I edged with Promarker to make it stand out a bit more. The backing paper is Papermania (So Sweet I think but I've had it ages and there's no cover on the pad!). Some gems add the necessary new year sparkle!

Male Birthday

At least I think I sent it to a man! I was after a clean and simple background so I just embossed some lines onto a plain white card blank. The image (LOTV) seemed to shout out simple so I stamped it onto watercolour paper and got my trusty watercolour pencils out. The colours were minimal and the finished image was mounted onto another piece of white card. A Craftwork Card oval finishes it.

Nephew Birthday cards

A couple of very simple birthday cards for my nephews, both in their 30's. The paper is MME fron a stack I bought in Florida and I used some gromlets that came with my Crop-o-dile in the QVC set. A birthday message from Craftwork Cards finishes them off. Very simple (and quick) but okay for men!

Has it really been that long since I updated my Blog? It might seem that it means that I haven't been making anything but that's not the case, I just don't seem to have got around to either taking pictures or sharing them. I shall put that right now with a couple from last year that I've just found on my camera and my first one for 2011 - I have a friend who's birthday is the day after mine and a whole year later although we were actually born in the same year!

Silver Wedding Card

I can't ever get mirri card to photograph very well so apologies again for this picture.

I used a shaped 8x8 card with silver mirri card and silver rose patterned vellum. I've had this vellum for again and now only have a tiny scrap left. I cut the numbers out using my Clever Cut number templates (such a good investment) and ran them through the Big Shot with the Cuttlebug Stylized Flowers embossing folder. Some crystal brads in the corners add the finishing touch.

Challenge Card

On one of those days when the mojo just isn't flowing Sarn challenged me to make a card using one of my oldest stamps and using a flower. I stamped this image (PSX) in Sepia Versafine and used water colours and a touch of glitter. The card base is gold, embossed with holly leaves (bought years ago from Hobbycraft in a sale). The flowers are prima with a blob of Liquid Pearls. The sentiment is also very old and I can't remember where it came from. Sorry about the photo quality but you get the idea I hope! Thanks as ever for the inspiration Sarn, you're a lifesaver!

The top card is a stamped image which I flocked - wasn't too sure on the result but it's growing on me now. The backing paper is from a FF pad. The second card is a FF die cut decoupage image, mounted onto an embossed oval Nestie. Got the peel off corners out for this one - they haven't been out for quite a while! Not sure where the blue backing paper came from, it was in my stash. A peel off greeting finishes it off.

60th Birthday Card

Seems lots of people at work are reaching milestone birthdays. This was for my Team Leader who was 60 last month. The image was downloaded from Crafts U Print (loving this site at the moment). The 60 was glittered with glamour dust just to make it pop a bit more.

75th Birthday

This is a card I've made for a colleague at work who celebrates her 75th birthday next week (yep, I really did get a card made early!) The paper and topper is from an old issue of Making Cards Magazine (cannot think why I haven't used these before). The pink card was punched with the Fiskars Threading Water border punch and I added pink velvet ribbon. The overall design was based on an idea in the magazine.

Here's a seclection of birthday cards that I've made and sent over the last few weeks - I shall try to remember what I used on them!

The top one was made with a kit from Create and Craft (same one I used for one of the cards for my niece). I actually alternated the decoupaged elements and used parts 1, 3 and 4 on my niece's card and parts 2, 4 and 6 on this card. Some flowers and gems completed it.

The second card uses some Papermania paper (Henbury collection I think) and a Sarah Kay image coloured with Promarkers. I cut some butterflies from the paper and added them with 3D foam.

The last two cards were made using a Stampin' Up stamp coloured with Promarkers. A Craftwork Cards sentiment 'stem' and a piece of ribbon completed them both.

The second card was made from a Create and Craft kit with a Craftwork Cards round sentiment mounted on a scalloped circle cut and embossed with a nestie.

My Son's Birthday Cards

The top card was from his sister and used another LOTV image - anyone who knows my son would recognise him in this image, he could have posed for it! Some Stampin' Up paper, 2 small and 2 medium sized red brads and a Craftwork Cards sentiment completed it.

The second card was made using a FF A4 card kit, the only extra addition was the number 6 which was a stamped image stamped and embossed in silver and mounted using plain and scalloped circle nesties.

Here's an old one - my friend's birthday was in April! I really like this stamp set - it's sometimes hard to come across something amusing, I've got loads of cute images but sometimes a little humour is in order. I bought this stamp set with someone in mind but it's ideal for any girlie birthday as I'm sure most of us face this dilemma at some point! These stamps are by Inky Antics although I can't remember where I bought them as it's quite a while ago now! I kept the colours very minimal so as not to detract from the wording.

Promised a friend of mine that I would add another picture and post to my blog, so Sarn, this one's for you!

I have made a few cards over the last couple of months and I might even get around to adding them onto my blog. It's been a case of making just what's needed about a day before it's needed. Lots of cards have been posted without me having taken a photo!

This card is for an old school friend of my hubby's who is getting married this weekend. I'm working so can't go to the wedding but hubby is going. I used some Popcorn the Bear paper and decoupage from an old issue of Creative Cardmaking magazine. For the first time I used the clear 'foam' pads to layer it up and I actually liked them. I had heard that people found the clear backings on the individual squares difficult to remove but I didn't have any problems.

Hopefully I'll have a few more to show you over the next few days.

Daughter's Birthday Invitations

These took hours to put together! I only made 16 but each of the letters were cut individually and then stuck on with my faithful Quickie Glue Pen. I did the majority of it whilst watching Team GB get beat at curling during the Winter Olympics! Had lots of lovely comments from the mum's at school though so it was worth it. The word invitation is acutally silver mirri card although I can never photograph it very well.

Patchwork Pals cards

I've head these characters from QVC/Kanban described as Marmite - either love them or hate them! I love them (I like Marmite too!) and recently I've used them for quite a few cards as they're fairly quick makes. Sometimes it feels like cheating when I don't stamp and colour an image but sometimes life just takes over and at least I haven't yet succumbed to sending a shop bought card to anyone.

Scrapbook Album

Here are the first pages of the album I made for my friend's 40th birthday. I've never done a whole album before - not even for myself so it was quite a challenge. Didn't think I'd get it finished on time but got there in the end. Hope she likes it! The hardest part was choosing which photo's to use - her hubby sent me loads on a disc and there were lots that I wanted to use but just couldn't fit them in.

Sorry, long time without blogging - been really busy with work and also making a little scrapbook album for my friend's 40th birthday. There was a time when I didn't think I'd get it finished but I'm happy to say that it was all done in time and has been posted off in time for her birthday this weekend.

I've been meaning to have a go at making an easel card for ages and finally got around to it with this one. Unfortunately I ran out of chipboard zero's so I had to use a letter o instead. Hopefully it won't look too obvious. I could really do with some more zero's but I think they only come with the other numbers of which I still have plenty.

A couple more cards I made for the Beary Nice challenge. I had a go with flocking one of the images too - not sure if I like the result or not but probably need to play around a bit more first. Both bears were coloured with promarkers. I had a change of colours which I prefer so I think I'm finally beginning to get the hang of using those pens! Images, papers and stickers are all FF.

Beary Nice Challenge

The new challenge set on the card making forum I belong to was nice and simple - bears! I used this sheet of paper and cut the image out from a second identical sheet and decoupaged them. I added some glossy accents on the 'drink' in the cup and also to the vase (neither the glossy accents or the decoupage shows up in the picture!). My usual Craftwork Card oval sentiments and Stampin' Up oval punches finished it off.

Blue RAK card

I made this card to a card-making friend as an RAK this month. The fold was taught to me by Elaine at a Stampin' Up evening held at her house and, for once, I was able to remember it when I got home and have made several since (just to make sure it stays in the brain you understand!). I think I used blue Brilliance ink to stamp and watercolour the little FF bear. The paper on the front was FF and the paper inside is Stampin' Up.

This card was for a friend of mine who, on top of caring for her poorly mum, is due to go into hospital this week. The paper was from a paper pad that came with a magazine and I used glitter on the petals and glossy accents and seed beads for the flower centres.

Pink Christmas

This was for a UKS challenge, the criteria were 1) use pink, 2) use bling, 3) use old stash.

I picked out my photo and then discovered I had no pink Christmas themed papers but dug deep and managed to find something that looked kind of Christmassy (it was so old I'm not even sure where it came from!) I added pink gemstones to the snowflakes for the bling and the page is generally pink!

Note to self for this year, acquire pink Christmas paper!

Funny Face

I have finally found the scrapbooking bug! It's one of those things that I keep putting off, all the while buying new stash. I came across this photo of DD whilst having a sort out of my scrapbooking stuff and the idea just popped into my head. It was a sharp learning curve as I had to learn how to find the photos from the PC (DH normally sorts all of that out), crop them and edit them. Really pleased with the result and I hope it will be the first of many layouts.

Forum 'Twins' Challenge

The fortnightly challenge on a cardmaking forum I belong to was Twins - to make 2 identical cards. I managed 2 sets, all using the same image. This is the first time I've coloured the FF bears with Promarkers so it still needs some work! The papers on the first 2 are Cupcakes (Craftwork Cards) with flowers and buttons from my stash and on the second the papers were FF (With Love collection) and the butterfly is a Papermania Dimensions sticker

Something Sweet was the challenge for this week on Penny Black Saturday and I think this image fits it perfectly. The image is Penny Black and has been coloured with Promarkers, paper is from the Cupcakes collection (Craftwork Cards I think), the sentiment is an Inca stamp. Hopefully I'm going to be just in time for this challenge but if it's not in time at least I've made a start on Easter cards!

It's been such a long time since I've updated my blog with anything - Christmas and illness got in the way and more recently I've been sorting out my craft room (I use the term loosely as it's really the conservatory/dining room/children's playroom!).

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge #3

Here's my card for the Crafty Cardmakers third challenge, based on a sketch. The papers and the cute robin are from a set that I picked up at the QVC Outlet in Shrewsbury. The robin is actually fuzzy (a bit like Fuzzy Felt texture). The poinsettias are Prima and I used a peel off greeting to finish it. The red circle has been cut from Core'dinations Poinsettia cardstock.

Here's my card for the Friday Sketchers sketch this week. As I'm on a roll with Christmas I thought I'd carry on. I used Forever Friends decoupage, papers and message plaque. I've edged the outer paper and bottom layer of the decoupage with green ink to add definition. I've also popped some green gems on the message to add a bit of Christmas bling!

For this card I used half of a Craftwork Cards scalloped card wrap and covered it with paper from the Docrafts Daisy and Dandelion paper and edged it with black ink. The main card was covered with paper from the same pack. I embossed the PB tree and greeting and finished it off with a couple of swirly peel off corners which I thought matched the tree quite well and a ribbon tied in a knot.

This is the card that I made for myself and my husband to send to a friend's little boy. The blue and orange card from the Crafty Cardmakers challenge is for the children to sign. On the cardmaking forum I belong to a couple of people have made cards using this design and I've jumped on the bandwagon! Really pleased with myself as I used some Papermania papers that I've had in my stash for ages. It was one of those huge packs that I was given one year as a Christmas present and, no matter how much of it you use, it never seems to go down! I already had the PB bears coloured from ages ago and I used peel off letters coloured to match the paper.

Fabric Christmas Card

A friend bought some fabric recently and wanted to see what others would do with it so she kindly sent some samples out (already mounted onto card!) I kept my card very traditional in keeping with the candles image. I mounted the square onto gold mirror card. The card itself was covered with some backing paper from the Docrafts Daisy and Dandelion Winter's Tale paper pack. The tartan strip at the bottom was also from this pack as was the message. I glittered the candles and berries with Stickles. Not a particularly good photo - my table is so cluttered at the moment I couldn't find enough space on it. A sign of creativity I like to think!

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge # 2

The second challenge from Crafty Cardmakers is Complimentary Colours. I chose blue and orange for my card, it's for a 6 year old boy and I've written his name on the present tag to personalise it a bit! I stamped a balloon (Anitas) background using blue brilliance ink and coloured the stars using a Sakura orange glaze pen. I used Nestabilities Labels 3 for the stamped image panel. The stamp is Forever Friends, coloured with watercolour pencils. I edged the white stamped panel with a metallic blue Sakura pen - it almost looks like another layer. Not my usual colour combination but it's growing on me!

Birthday Card

It's my work team leader's birthday next week so I've finally had a chance to use the Stampin' Up Golden Oldies set. I love the gentle humour of them. I stamped it using an old Whispers Ink pad (aubergine) - had them ages, I've let the children use them too and still going strong! I liked the look of it just stamped so I didn't bother with colouring. The paper was sent to me by a very good friend because I happened to mention that I never had purple or lilac paper when I needed it! The sentiment is Craftwork Cards (yes again!) and is mounted using the Stampin Up oval punches which fit them so well. The 'frilly bit' was made with the Fiskars Threading Water border punch.

Crafty Cardmakers Challenge 1

Was away last week so that's why there's been nothing new!

Came back to Challenge number 1 on Crafty Cardmakers which was Blossoms. Had to make a card for my nieces birthday at the end of the month and this is what I came up with. The card blank is pre-printed with the pink flowers (from a QVC Forever Friends kit) and I stamped and coloured the image using watercolour pencils. The outer circle is a very pale pink pearlescent paper and the scalloped oval is punched with a Stampin Up punch on pink glitter card. The message plaque is by Craftwork Cards and the lovely big flower is from a jar of Prima Daisy Doodles which I bought in Florida earlier this year.

Penny Black Saturday Challenge # 60 Summer

Penny Black Saturday challenge this week was simply 'Summer'. This image has to be one my favourite PB hedgies - I just love him getting sunburnt in his deckchair - so very English! He was coloured using watercolour pencils and I used DCWV paper for the background and decoupaged one of the flowers from the paper. Blue and yellow always say Summer to me (must be the yellow sand and blue sky!) so they were the obvious colour choices this time. A simple card but very me!

Friday Sketchers # 63

Time to get cracking with Christmas and this was a great sketch on Friday Sketchers. I just love these Fairy Doodle stamps that I bought at Newbury in July. I used Dovecraft backing paper from last year and my trusty water colour pencils for the image. The poinsettia is Prima and the brad, buttons and card are from my stash.

One Idea, Two Cards

Two cards, almost identical except one was made as a Get Well card for a friend who's been through the mill a bit recently and the other I made into a birthday card. I coloured the image with Promarkers and used a Craftwork Cards message plaque layered with the Stampin' Up oval and scalloped oval punches. I also dug out some seed beads and glossy accents for the flower centres
